• Trade Impact: The deal is projected to increase EU annual exports by 39%, saving firms over €4 billion annually. It will lower or remove tariffs on EU cars (currently up to 35%), machinery, and pharmaceuticals.

• Controversies: The deal faces significant opposition from European farmers (especially in France, Belgium, and Poland) regarding competition from cheaper South American beef and sugar, as well as environmental concerns about deforestation.

• Geopolitical Strategy: The deal is a key move by the EU to strengthen ties with South America, serving as a counterweight to Chinese and U.S. influence in the region.

• Ratification: Despite the signing, the agreement still faces a challenging ratification process in the European Parliament and individual member state legislatures.
