The Alberta government is heavily investing $1.7B in 2025–26 to expand home care, build thousands of new spaces, and modernize services through "Assisted Living Alberta," focusing on enabling people to age in place. 

Key Aspects of Assisted Living in Alberta:

• Services Provided: These facilities offer meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour on-site personal support (e.g., help with medication or bathing).

• Government Support: The provincial government is restructuring to create a more integrated, 24/7 care model, aiming to reduce pressure on acute hospital care.

• Funding & Costs: While many services are private, provincial funding supports care costs for eligible individuals. Financial assistance programs, such as the Alberta Seniors Benefit, are available to help manage costs.

• Expansion Initiatives: A $400 million investment is currently building 1,500 new continuing care spaces, with priority for projects in Calgary and Edmonton.

• Accessing Care: An upcoming navigation portal will allow residents to compare options for supportive living across the province.

ALBERTA DISABILITY SUPPORT 

For Disabled. Specialized outside Alberta Supports for temporary Financial Assistance 

The Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) is a new, separate income support system for Albertans with disabilities launching in July 2026, aimed at individuals capable of some employment. It will feature lower monthly benefits—maximum $1,740—compared to AISH, offering enhanced employment services, personalized action plans, and a focus on removing barriers to work. 

Key details about the ADAP program:

• Purpose:
 To empower individuals with disabilities to secure employment while retaining access to health and financial benefits.

• Transition from AISH: Existing AISH recipients may be moved to ADAP, with temporary stabilization payments for some through 2027.

• Benefits & Services: The program offers career planning, assistive technology, and supported job placements.

• Financial Impact: Concerns have been raised by advocacy groups, such as Inclusion Alberta, that the maximum monthly payment is $200 lower than the current $1,940 provided by AISH.

• Status: Following the passage of Bill 12 in December 2025, the program is moving forward with implementation, despite concerns regarding potential cuts to benefits and reduced indexing.
