February 2026, a U.S. citizen living in eastern Ontario was arrested, convicted, and sentenced for using a stolen Canadian identity for an extended period. The individual had fraudulently obtained multiple official documents, including a Canadian passport and citizenship certificate. 

Details of the Case

• The Perpetrator: A U.S. citizen who had been residing in eastern Ontario for some time.

• The Scheme: The man used a stolen identity of a Canadian citizen to live, work, and access services in Canada. He further used this stolen identity to create an additional false identity.

• Fraudulent Documents: He secured a fraudulent Canadian citizenship certificate, passport, driver's license, and health card.

• The Arrest: The scheme was uncovered during an investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The man was arrested by the CBSA when he attempted to re-enter Canada using a false identity.

• Conviction and Sentencing: The individual was found guilty of several offenses, including identity fraud, obtaining citizenship of another person, and forgery of a passport. He received a one-year jail sentence and a three-year probation order prohibiting him from entering Canada.
